Giving some of your knowledge away may be appropriate. In fact it is almost necessary to give some away. However, there is a point when giving away too much is simply not good for business. I have a colleague that specializes in sales training and he calls this “spilling your candy in the lobby”.

 

If you spill or (perhaps more accurately) give your candy away then there is no need to buy it -- even if someone is ready, willing and able to buy it.
